Let me know where to send it...
I know, that’s a surprising thing for a book coach to say, so allow me to clarify. Books are being sold, tons of them. In fact, according to Amazon, book buying is on the rise.
But people aren’t actually buying books.
They’re buying titles. They’re judging your book by only one thing; your title of the book.
You have a fraction of a second to get their attention with the title.
✅If they like the title, they’ll look at the cover.
✅If they like the cover, they’ll check out the description.
✅If they like the description, they’ll check out your reviews.
✅Then they’ll buy your book.
Hemingway learned this the hard way. He was a brilliant writer, but a horrible titleist.
The original title for A farewell to Arms was The Sentimental Education Of Fredrick Henry.
It sold much better under its ‘new’ title.
So what can you do to get a better title?
Simple.
Take a look at the best selling books in your genre, the ones NOT published by already established people. (When you’re talking about someone like Tony Robbins or Stephen King, they are selling their names, not their title.)
Look at enough books to discover a pattern, then adapt the pattern for your own use. My own books sold better when I started doing this. After all, people buy the titles, not the book.
