To Kill A Mockingbird is a powerful book. It’s an even more amazing book when you compare it to its first incarnation; Go Set A Watchman. We won’t be talking about that version here, since that one actually changed nothing.
What made that book powerful was the innocent point of view of Scout. By telling it from the point of view of a child who doesn’t really understand racism, Harper Lee was able to create a powerful story about racism, appearances, the status quo and so much more.
Not only was this book a bestseller, it sparked the conversation of a country.
Mockingbird not only worked on a societal level, it also worked on an individual level, as it inspired hundreds of thousands of people to be a better, stronger, less judgmental version of themselves.
That’s the power of a great story, with great characters.
