How Cujo Got People To Vaccinate Their Animals

You don't have to be highbrow to make a difference

So today let's talk about another book that changed the world; Cujo. Yes, THAT Cujo by Stephen King.

The one about the monstrous dog.

But it was wasn’t really a monster, as anyone who’s read the book or seen the movie will know.

In fact, this is the only one of Stephen King's books to deal with a natural problem as opposed to a sci fi, supernatural or psychological problem.

For those of you who haven’t read the book/seen the movie, I’m going to tell you what the problem was right now.

Rabies.

And in the 1970’s when the book/movie came out, it wasn’t on anyone’s radar. Yes, it was a thing, we knew about it, but no one really took it seriously. It wasn’t uncommon in the 1970’s to find a whole neighborhood of unvaccinated dogs.

Then, this started to change.

With the attention the book drew, people started realizing that rabies wasn’t something to ignore. After all, once symptoms start, rabies is 100% fatal.

this is true even today.

So people started getting their dogs vaccinated. Then, they pushed for laws for other people’s dogs vaccinated.

Today, you’d be hard-pressed to find a dog or cat not vaccinated.

It was a slow movement that eventually changed the world.

And even though a lot of work had to be done by people who’d never even been exposed to the book, the movement really started to take off with Cujo.  (and isn't’ that a much better way to get a message across as opposed to saying ‘get your dog vaccinated?’)

How will your book change the world?
